Tir Na Greine School of Irish Dance

Tir Na Greine (pronounced “tear-na-gran-ya”) is Irish for "land of sunshine", an appropriate name for an Irish dance school here in Florida, the Sunshine State.

The phenomenal success and popularity of Ireland’s “Riverdance” show generated world-wide interest in traditional Irish dance and music.  Here in Florida, the Tir Na Greine School of Irish Dance was established to satisfy an overwhelming demand in the local Irish communities to learn traditional Irish dance.

The Tir Na Greine School of Irish Dance was founded in 1994 by Laura O’Sullivan and Maureen Armstrong at Orlando, Florida.  The two former students of the Donny Golden School of Irish Dance in New York shared a common bond that went beyond the fact that they were former classmates.  Laura and Maureen are both regional and national dance champions, and danced with honors at the World Championships in Ireland.  They have performed in such places Radio City Music Hall and Carnegie Hall in New York, as well as performed with well known Irish music groups such as "The Chieftains", ‘Cherish the Ladies" and "Paddy Noonan".  Maureen and Laura are accredited by An Coimisium le Rince Gaelacha in Ireland and the Dance Teachers Association of North America, as both teachers and judges.

The Tir Na Greine School of Irish Dance continues to grow, with over 250 students, and offers classes in six Florida cities: Orlando, Delray Beach, Jupiter, Melbourne, St. Cloud, Stuart and West Palm Beach.  The school’s students participated at the 2009 World Championships, held for the first time in the USA at Philadelphia, and at the North American Irish Dance Championships held at Nashville, Tennessee.  Tir Na Greine also hosts a feis (pronounced “fesh”), an Irish dance competition, each year here in Florida.  The dancers also appear regularly at Irish festivals and other venues in Florida:
